For several years already, molecular physicist and UniSysCat member Prof. Joachim Heberle has been committed to good scientific practice. He has been a member of the “Ombudsman for Science” of the German Research Foundation (DFG) since 2014. Recently, Prof. Heberle was elected to two new offices in the field of scientific integrity.

Since May 2021, Prof. Heberle has been a member of the Commission for Investigating Scientific Misconduct of the ÖAWI, the Austrian Agency for Scientific Integrity. The ÖAWI raises awareness for the standards of good Scientific Practice among researchers and the general public. The ÖAWI was established as an Association in 2008 and has now more than 50 member institutions, including all Austrian public universities, universities of applied sciences, various non-university research institutions and research funding agencies. The Agency strengthens responsibility in research and ensures the observance of the respective guidelines.

Moreover, in July 2021, Prof. Heberle took the office of the central ombudsman of Freie Universität Berlin (FU Berlin). The FU has two ombudspersons in each department. Now, there is also a central ombudsperson who can be consulted in the event of a conflict or for advice on issues concerning good scientific practice. Here you will find an article in the online journal "campus.leben" of the Free University of Berlin on the election of Prof. Heberle as Central Ombudsperson: "Der Moderator".
